Trauma and PTSD therapy in Tunbridge Wells
Specialist psychological help after frightening or distressing events, at a pace that feels safe.
Trauma can follow a single event, such as an accident, an assault or a difficult birth, or build up over years. Its effects are a normal response to abnormal experiences, not a sign of weakness.
Therapy for trauma begins with safety and stabilisation: understanding your reactions and having ways to manage them. Only then, and only if you choose to, do we work with the memories themselves. NICE recommends trauma-focused psychological therapies, including trauma-focused CBT and EMDR, for post-traumatic stress disorder.
You stay in control of what we talk about and when. Nothing is rushed.
Frequently asked questions
Will I have to talk about the trauma in detail?
Not straight away, and never before you feel ready. We start by building ways to manage your symptoms and agree together how and when to approach the memories.
Is it too late if the trauma happened years ago?
No. Trauma-focused therapy can help whether the event was recent or a long time ago.
